On October 30, value investor Duan Yongping responded on Xueqiu to a follower’s question about how couples handle consumer-service disputes, stating: "My approach might be very similar to your boyfriend's. Perhaps there really are differences between men and women."
The follower, using the handle "Qianghan de Xiaoyunduo," described recurring disagreements. In a familiar restaurant where the day’s ingredients were not fresh, she said she would point it out on the spot and ask to return the dish, while her boyfriend would set the plate aside, pay as usual, and decide not to revisit the restaurant. After a car wash left part of the interior uncleaned, she would ask the attendant to wipe it again; her boyfriend would quietly clean it himself and avoid the shop thereafter. When she bought counterfeit liquor and lost a few thousand yuan, she traced the seller via payment information to retrieve the money; her boyfriend preferred to treat it as his own mistake, keep the fake bottle visible, and use it as a reminder against greed.
She added that the couple has been together for three to four years, that he is eight years older, and that they now avoid arguing over such issues. She asked Duan whether there might be a more “perfect” way to handle them. Duan’s reply indicated his approach aligns more closely with the boyfriend’s in the examples.
