Beijing's highly anticipated first snowfall of 2025 arrived as scheduled. According to the Beijing Meteorological Bureau, snow began falling in Yanqing, Mentougou, and Fangshan districts in the early hours of December 12. The snow system is moving from west to east, bringing moderate snowfall to most areas, with heavy snow or even blizzards in parts of Fangshan, Mentougou, Changping, Yanqing, Huairou, and Miyun.
Coinciding with the last weekday before the weekend, the snowfall instantly ignited enthusiasm among Beijing residents for snow appreciation and winter activities. Searches for "Palace Museum" spiked by 90% compared to the previous two days, while "Universal Beijing Resort" saw a 40% increase.
As of now, tickets for the Palace Museum on December 13 (Saturday) and December 14 (Sunday) are sold out. On TONGCHENGTRAVEL, in-depth tour packages and day-trip products for the Palace Museum have also gained popularity, with bookings doubling compared to last week. Universal Beijing Resort also saw an 80% week-on-week increase in ticket bookings for the weekend.
Meanwhile, hotel bookings near Universal Beijing Resort rose sharply, primarily driven by families and young travelers, with some guests checking in early to avoid peak crowds.
However, due to the overwhelming demand for the Palace Museum and Universal Beijing Resort, many visitors turned to other snow-friendly attractions, boosting the popularity of historical landmarks and parks. TONGCHENGTRAVEL data shows that the Summer Palace, Old Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Jingshan Park, Beihai Park, and the Badaling Great Wall have all entered the Top 10 trending attractions list.
