Shanghai Composite Index Achieves 12 Consecutive Gains, Setting New 33-Year Record

On January 5th, the A-share market kicked off the new year with a strong start, as the Shanghai Composite Index surged 1.38% to reclaim the 4,000-point level, marking its 12th consecutive day of gains and setting a new record for the longest winning streak in nearly 33 years.

According to statistics compiled by Sina Finance based on Wind data, there have only been seven instances in the history of the Shanghai Composite Index where it recorded more than 10 consecutive days of gains. These periods are: - From December 27, 1990, to January 10, 1991 (10 consecutive gains), - From August 27, 1991, to September 9, 1991 (10 consecutive gains), - From February 25, 1992, to March 11, 1992 (12 consecutive gains), - From May 5, 1992, to May 19, 1992 (11 consecutive gains), - From June 15, 2006, to June 29, 2006 (11 consecutive gains), - From December 28, 2017, to January 12, 2018 (11 consecutive gains), - From December 17, 2025, to January 5, 2026 (12 consecutive gains), which has now broken the nearly 33-year record for consecutive gains.
