From October 28 to 29, the "2025 Chishui River Forum" with the theme of "Harmony Between Heaven and Earth" was held in Maotai Town. Geng Chao, Chairman of Beijing Yanjing Brewery Co., Ltd., discussed how each type of alcohol has its unique characteristics. For example, Xifeng liquor benefits from its location at the junction of the Loess Plateau and the Guanzhong Plain, giving it distinct regional traits. However, beer is different—it requires heavy logistics due to large-scale consumption.
Geng emphasized that the core challenge for beer lies in achieving consistency. "Whether in Northeast China or Guizhou, Yanjing Beer operates multiple breweries, each with varying water sources. Ensuring uniform water quality is the core competency of our national brand," he noted.
He explained that beer ingredients are simple: water, malt, hops, and yeast. While there are hundreds of hop varieties and multiple types of malt and yeast, water is closely tied to local characteristics. The ability to adapt brewing to local water while maintaining consistency across regions—and even internationally—is crucial.
"Yanjing Beer is committed to crafting beer for Chinese consumers, and our core competitiveness lies in 'consistent expression,'" Geng stated.
