Treasury Settlement Explores Around-the-Clock Operations with Tokenization Pilot

Deep News16:36

On July 24, major financial institutions are planning to test tokenized U.S. Treasury infrastructure aimed at shortening settlement waiting periods during weekends and non-trading hours. The initiative suggests that if traditional assets can connect to a longer trading and settlement network, capital efficiency could be improved.

The related project will first validate asset records, cash delivery, and operational processes within a controlled environment. Around-the-clock operation does not simply mean extending trading hours; more importantly, it ensures that different systems can synchronize to complete final settlement seamlessly.

Tokenized Treasury bonds combine the credit foundation of traditional assets with the efficiency of digital transfer, but still face challenges related to liquidity distribution, technical standards, and risk control. The pilot's scale, participating institutions, and actual settlement speed will determine its commercial value.

Going forward, it is worth observing whether the test can cover more cross-timezone scenarios and whether the cash side will undergo simultaneous digitization. It is anticipated that improvements in settlement infrastructure will push tokenized assets from demonstration projects toward real-world applications.
