New Cross-Border E-Commerce Hub in Nanchong Aims to Propel Sichuan Goods onto the Global Stage

Deep News07-04

A major industrial park dedicated to cross-border e-commerce has officially commenced operations in Nanchong City's Gaoping District. With a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan and spanning approximately 10,000 square meters, the Chengdu-Chongqing Northern Cross-Border E-Commerce Industrial Park represents a significant step forward for the region's economic development strategy.

The facility integrates four core centers focused on cross-border e-commerce operations and product exhibition and sales. It also establishes two key bases for talent cultivation and live-streaming commerce, alongside an international youth community. This initiative is pivotal for Nanchong as it seeks to enhance its role as a crucial hub for opening up in eastern and northern Sichuan. Furthermore, it lays a solid foundation for expanding the cluster of cross-border e-commerce businesses with Sichuan origins and for stabilizing and optimizing the structure of foreign trade.

Choosing Nanchong for Strategic Advantage

The selection of Nanchong for this project is driven by several strategic factors, with geographical location being paramount. Situated at a key junction within the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone and the broader triangle economic area connecting Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi'an, Nanchong has historically served as a vital link. Its comprehensive transportation network, encompassing road, rail, water, and air routes, establishes it as the core logistics hub for northeast Sichuan. This logistical strength was a decisive factor for investors like the Singapore-based Aran's Investment Group, whose subsidiary collaborated with Gaoping District to develop the park within the second phase of the Northeast Sichuan Financial Center.

Industrial foundation and supportive policies are equally critical. Nanchong is a longstanding industrial center in northeast Sichuan, with robust pillars in automotive parts, chemical and light textiles, and food and pharmaceuticals. Notably, its silk and textile apparel industry leads the province in economic output. This strong industrial base, coupled with complete supporting infrastructure, makes it an attractive location for businesses aiming to access international markets.

Policy Support and Market Growth

Government policy further enhances Nanchong's appeal. In February, the city introduced measures to support the high-quality development of the platform economy, offering subsidies and rewards of up to 5 million yuan. These policies specifically incentivize the scale-up of e-commerce industrial parks and provide tiered rewards based on revenue for locally registered platform companies. They also offer support proportional to sales for businesses engaged in cross-border e-commerce and promoting "Nanchong products going global." These efforts have yielded results; Nanchong's cross-border e-commerce transaction volume has ranked second in Sichuan province for four consecutive years, with its total import-export value consistently in the province's top tier. The city's total online transaction volume reached 45.23 billion yuan in 2025, marking a 9.2% year-on-year increase, with expectations for further growth this year.

Building an Ecosystem, Not Just a Marketplace

The industrial park is designed to be more than just a sales platform; it aims to foster a complete business ecosystem. Located near the Nanchong Modern Logistics Park, which houses facilities like the Nanchong Bonded Logistics Center (Type B) and a cargo consolidation base for China-Europe freight trains, the new e-commerce park creates a synergistic "front shop, back warehouse" model. This integration streamlines operations from business incubation and market development to logistics and customs clearance.

The ecosystem is already taking shape, with eight prominent cross-border e-commerce companies signing agreements to establish operations within the park. An innovative aspect is the creation of an OPC (One Person Company) ecological community. This model supports individual entrepreneurs by providing a full-chain, intensive supply of resources including computing power, workspace, data, capital, and business scenarios, enabling low-barrier, high-efficiency market entry. The park has initially attracted four OPC enterprises and offers facilities like lightweight independent offices and AI-powered shared live-streaming studios to meet core needs such as product sourcing, talent exchange, and business synergy.

Ambitious Targets for the Future

The park has a clear five-year development roadmap. The initial two-year phase will focus on building a solid foundation, followed by a three-year period of rapid expansion and scaling. The overarching goal is to cumulatively drive import and export volumes exceeding 10 billion yuan over this period. Achieving this will require establishing a demand-oriented, agile supply capability on the production side and a regularized product selection and对接 mechanism on the demand side. By synergizing trade and production, the initiative aims to accelerate the formation of a distinctive and highly competitive cross-border e-commerce industrial belt in Sichuan.
