The final roadshow of the second Guangdong Province "AI + Transportation" innovation application contest took place in Guangzhou on August 27. Thirty projects that advanced through multiple rounds of selection presented their innovations at the event, showcasing the practical applications of artificial intelligence across the transportation sector. The final results will be announced through the official WeChat account of the Guangdong Intelligent Transportation Association.
Co-hosted by the Guangdong Intelligent Transportation Association and the Guangdong Provincial Transportation Trade Union Committee, the contest was launched in May 2026. The competition progressed through phases including notice distribution, registration, training, material review, preliminary rounds, and online voting, ultimately selecting 30 projects from nearly 100 submissions to compete in the finals. The participating projects span multiple sectors such as smart highways, rail transit, ports and waterways, civil aviation, low-altitude economy, and industry governance, incorporating frontier technologies like large models, intelligent agents, computer vision, multimodal perception, and digital twins.
At the final roadshow, notable projects included an intelligent inspection system for urban rail transit that enables daily recognition of 4 million images, as well as a cluster of intelligent agents designed to boost operational efficiency on expressways. Most of these projects originate from real business scenarios and directly address pressing challenges faced by the industry. The finals combined on-site presentations with expert Q&A sessions, where each team delivered a five-minute pitch followed by a three-minute defense. Expert judges scored the performances on-site, while audience members participated as part of the public judging panel.
Xie Zhendong, President of the Guangdong Intelligent Transportation Association, noted that artificial intelligence is rapidly transitioning from concept validation to large-scale deployment, placing the transportation industry at the forefront of this transformation. Li Aimin, former Vice President of the Research Institute of Highway under the Ministry of Transport and head of the review panel, delivered a summary evaluation of the roadshow projects. Li stated that this year's entries are grounded in practical scenarios and rich in diversity, with AI technology deeply integrated throughout the entire problem-solving process, reflecting a high level of independent development capability among the participating organizations.
