Citi has released a research report stating that Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) for July reached 20.26 billion Macau patacas (approximately 654 million patacas per day), representing an 8% year-on-year decline. This figure recovered to roughly 83% of July 2019 levels, falling short of the firm's 21 billion pataca estimate and the market's 20.8 billion pataca forecast.
Citi attributes the shortfall primarily to the impact of Typhoon "Hongxia" affecting the Hong Kong and Macau regions on July 26-27. The implied daily gaming revenue run rate for the final 12 days of July was approximately 684 million patacas, and the firm believes it would have exceeded 700 million patacas without the typhoon.
Looking ahead to August, major concerts are scheduled nearly every weekend in Macau. Citi predicts that Macau's gaming revenue will rebound to 23.5 billion patacas (approximately 758 million patacas per day) in August, representing a 6% year-on-year increase.
