China's 15th Five-Year Plan for Tourism Power Unveils Ambitious Targets for 2030

On July 7th, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism officially released the "15th Five-Year Plan for Building a Strong Tourism Nation."

The plan outlines a vision for significant progress in high-quality tourism development by 2030, aiming for a more complete modern tourism system and substantial advancements in establishing China as a tourism powerhouse.

The strategic document emphasizes the goal of solidifying tourism's status as a pillar industry. It is expected to play a more prominent role in stimulating domestic demand, creating employment, and invigorating the market, with the added value of the tourism sector and related industries steadily increasing as a share of the national GDP.

Enhancing public satisfaction is a central objective. The plan calls for a marked improvement in the sense of fulfillment and happiness citizens derive from tourism, supported by a continuously improving public service system. It sets specific targets for domestic tourism volume and expenditure, aiming for 8.3 billion domestic tourist trips and total domestic tourism spending reaching 7.7 trillion yuan by 2030, thereby further highlighting the inclusive nature of tourism.

On the international front, the plan seeks to significantly boost China's global tourism influence. It targets a substantial expansion in the scale and economic benefits of inbound tourism, with goals of attracting 190 million international visitor arrivals and generating over 150 billion US dollars in inbound tourism revenue.
