Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk responded on platform X to Ford's scaling back of its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, stating that it signals the irreversible decline and inevitable demise of traditional automakers.
A user commented: "The fact that Ford still believes the purpose of producing EVs is to reduce emissions shows how little traditional automakers understand this paradigm shift. Autonomy is the wave. Once vehicles become autonomous, the operational costs of gas-powered cars will be completely unsustainable. Emission reduction is just a side effect. EVs are fundamentally a better platform for self-driving. It’s like investing in new whaling ships after the commercialization of incandescent bulbs."
Musk replied: "Absolutely correct. Years ago, I said non-autonomous internal combustion engine cars are like using a flip phone while riding a horse—but you can’t force a good idea on a traditional industry. They insist on marching to their death."
