Due to the lack of blockbuster leading films, the National Day holiday box office showed insufficient appeal and relatively lackluster market performance.
On October 9th, the first trading day after the National Day holiday, the film and cinema sector declined overall.
According to data, as of 1:00 PM, the film and cinema sector fell 4.42%. Multiple film companies' stock prices dropped significantly in tandem, with Zhejiang Huace Film&Tv Co.,Ltd. (300133.SZ) plunging 12.70%, Beijing Enlight Media Co.,Ltd. (300251.SZ) falling 10.48%, Bona Film Group (001330.SZ) down 10.05%, Hengdian Entertainment (603103.SH) and China Film Co. (600977.SH) hitting the daily limit down, while Wanda Film (002739.SZ) and Happy Blue Ocean (300528.SZ) dropped over 7%.
The just-concluded National Day box office performance was lukewarm, which may have influenced today's stock movements to some extent.
According to National Film Administration statistics, the 2025 National Day box office totaled 1.835 billion yuan, falling short of last year and the year before. Based on comprehensive data from Beacon and Maoyan Professional Edition, this year's National Day average ticket price dropped to 36.6 yuan, and the number of moviegoers decreased by approximately 2.02 million compared to the 52.09 million during the 2024 National Day period.
An entertainment industry analyst noted that the decline in film sector stocks after National Day is a normal adjustment, as the film sector had experienced rapid growth during the previous summer and Spring Festival periods.
A market analyst from Maoyan Entertainment stated that this year's National Day lineup featured abundant new releases with diverse genres, but due to the lack of blockbuster leading films, appeal was somewhat insufficient, resulting in relatively lackluster market performance. No single film achieved daily box office of over 100 million yuan during the period, no film exceeded 500 million yuan in total box office, and two IP sequels became the main box office drivers among new National Day releases.
