The artificial intelligence infrastructure boom shows no signs of slowing down. Amazon.com (AMZN.US) announced on Monday a plan to invest billions of dollars in constructing a new data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri. This move significantly advances its expansion in AI and cloud computing.

The project involves building a dedicated campus complex and is expected to create over 400 full-time jobs along with thousands of construction positions. The development will encompass work on roads, water systems, and digital communication infrastructure. The company has pledged more than $7 million for community development initiatives.

This commitment includes $3 million for emergency dispatch support facilities, $1 million for creating community spaces, and grants for local projects and education through ChangeX. The new campus is designed to operate on 138 megawatts of carbon-free energy, sufficient to power approximately 28,000 homes.

It will employ an efficient "free-air cooling" system, which requires water consumption for only about 7% of the year. In a separate sustainability effort, Amazon is collaborating with Arable Labs with the goal of improving irrigation efficiency for farmers, aiming to save roughly 100 million gallons of water annually.

Local officials project that the development will generate hundreds of millions of dollars in new tax revenue. Previously, the tax revenue from the land was less than $9,000. This announcement comes at a time of surging global investment in artificial intelligence.

Amazon has outlined capital expenditure plans approaching $200 billion for 2026. Collectively, major cloud service providers, including Alphabet (GOOGL.US), Microsoft (MSFT.US), and Meta (META.US), are projected to spend close to $700 billion on AI infrastructure.
