Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced in an internal memo on Tuesday that it will begin allowing employees to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by other companies, such as ChatGPT, starting next month.
The memo stated that Samsung plans to officially launch an external generative AI service in June, initially for employees within its Device eXperience (DX) division, which oversees the company's display, mobile device, and home appliance businesses.
According to industry sources, Samsung also intends to offer training courses on AI applications in the second half of the year, with participation expected from approximately 2,000 executives from Samsung Electronics and its major affiliates.
Previously, for security reasons, Samsung employees were only permitted to use the company's internal AI model, Samsung Gauss.
Company executives noted that employees must complete security training to gain access to external AI models. They added that the use of external AI models will remain restricted and not be available to the company's semiconductor or Device Solutions (DS) division.
