BYD Shares Surge Over 4% in Late Trading as Brazil Vehicle Sales Jump 73.67% in Q1

BYD Company (01211) rose more than 4% in late trading. At the time of writing, the stock was up 3.63% to HK$105.5, with a turnover of HK$2.813 billion. Data shows that in March 2026, the company's new energy vehicle sales reached approximately 300,200 units, an increase of about 57.8% compared to the previous month. In the first quarter of this year, BYD's cumulative new energy vehicle sales totaled around 700,500 units. According to data from the Brazilian National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distributors, BYD sold 37,637 vehicles in Brazil during the first quarter of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 73.67%, setting a new historical record. Notably, in mid-March this year, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li announced at an event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that the company's Brazilian plant had secured export orders totaling 100,000 vehicles from Argentina and Mexico. Argentina and Mexico each placed orders for 50,000 vehicles. It is reported that BYD's Brazilian plant is located in Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil, with a current annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, which is planned to be increased in phases to 600,000 units.
