Yen Hits Lowest Level Against Dollar Since July 2024

The yen's decline accelerated, falling to its lowest level against the U.S. dollar since July 2024, as markets speculated that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi might call a snap election soon. The currency dropped as much as 0.5%, reaching 158.90 yen per dollar. The Ministry of Finance last intervened in the foreign exchange market on July 12, 2024, when the dollar-yen rate hit an intraday high of 159.45.
