Harvest Fund's He Ru Retires: Index Investing Veteran Steps Down Due to Age, Smooth Transition for 6 Products Including Harvest CSI 300 ETF

Deep News01-14

On January 14, Harvest Fund released a series of fund manager change announcements, marking the official retirement of a seasoned veteran in the company's index investment division—He Ru—due to age. This change affects a total of six products: the Harvest CSI 300 ETF, the Harvest CSI 500 ETF, the Harvest CSI 300 ETF Link (LOF) A, the Harvest CSI 500 ETF Link A, the Harvest CSI A50 ETF Link A, and the Harvest Guozheng Communication ETF Link A, with the effective date of the change being the announcement date. He Ru's departure concludes her nearly nineteen-year tenure with Harvest Fund and a career as a fund manager spanning over eleven years.

Eleven years at the helm left behind a legacy of over 220 billion RMB in assets under management and steady performance. Public records show that He Ru's career combined international and domestic perspectives, having previously worked at IA Clarington Investments and Franklin Templeton Investments. He joined Harvest Fund in June 2007, holding key positions in the Product Management Department and the Index Investment Department, accumulating profound experience in fund product design and index investment management. As a financial professional with an overseas background, He Ru became one of the key pioneers and core managers in Harvest Fund's index investment division during a period of rapid development for domestic index investing. Wind data indicates that He Ru's tenure as an investment manager lasted 11.69 years, during which she managed a total of 36 funds. Prior to her departure, the combined assets of the six index products she managed amounted to a substantial 223.844 billion RMB, with flagship broad-based products like the Harvest CSI 300 ETF forming the cornerstone of this scale. Particularly notable was her long-term performance: the annualized return of her previously managed products was 8.99%, significantly outperforming the CSI 300 Index over the same period, demonstrating excellent tracking control, meticulous operation, and potential enhancement strategy capabilities in index investment management.

He Ru's retirement marks the departure of another senior fund manager in the public fund industry who has withstood the long-term test of the market. She personally experienced and participated in the critical phase of the domestic ETF market's growth from its infancy. The massive assets she managed not only attest to her professional competence but also reflect Harvest Fund's leading position and market influence in the index and ETF arena.

A smooth transition is underway, with four capable managers independently taking the helm. Following He Ru's departure, the management of the six products is transitioning smoothly, with four experienced fund managers from within the Index Investment Department taking over independently: The Harvest CSI 300 ETF and the Harvest CSI 300 ETF Link (LOF) A will be independently managed by Liu Jiayin. Liu Jiayin joined Harvest Fund Management Co., Ltd. in 2009 and currently serves as the head of the Index Investment Department. She previously served as an index researcher in the Index Investment Department. As of January 13, 2026, her investment manager tenure is 9.82 years. She has managed 30 funds historically, currently manages 13 funds, with total assets under management of 225.746 billion RMB. The annualized return of her previously managed products is 2.05%, which did not outperform the CSI 300 Index over the same period. Her return over the past three years is 22.63%, outperforming the CSI 300 Index.

The Harvest CSI 500 ETF and the Harvest CSI 500 ETF Link A will be solely managed by Li Zhi. Li Zhi joined Harvest Fund Management Co., Ltd. in July 2014, engaging in index fund investment and research work, and currently serves as a fund manager. His investment manager tenure is 9.40 years. He has managed 39 funds historically, currently manages 16 funds, with total assets under management of 21.010 billion RMB. The annualized return of his previously managed products is 8.22%, outperforming the CSI 300 Index.

The Harvest CSI A50 ETF Link A will be independently managed by Shang Ke. Shang Ke joined Harvest Fund Management Co., Ltd. in March 2020. His investment manager tenure is 2.01 years. He has managed 15 funds historically, currently manages 15 funds, with total assets under management of 6.105 billion RMB. The annualized return of his previously managed products is 35.38%, outperforming the CSI 300 Index.

The Harvest Guozheng Communication ETF Link A will be independently managed by Zhang Zhongyu. Zhang Zhongyu joined the Index Investment Department of Harvest Fund Management Co., Ltd. in September 2021. She previously served as a researcher, quantitative analyst, and fund manager at Da Cheng Fund Management Co., Ltd. Her investment manager tenure is 10.49 years. She has managed 28 funds historically, currently manages 16 funds, with total assets under management of 19.175 billion RMB. The annualized return of her previously managed products is 12.76%, outperforming the CSI 300 Index.

This transition demonstrates the maturity of Harvest Fund's index investment and research team development. The successors have already been involved in product management; they are either long-term internally cultivated key personnel or recruited seasoned veterans, with most possessing solid long-term performance records, aiming to ensure the continuity and stability of the investment strategies for the relevant products. Against the backdrop of the increasing importance of passive investment tools, changes in the fund managers of core products attract significant market attention. Whether the new team of fund managers can sustain and create new chapters of performance will be closely watched by investors.
