Ping An Bank CEO Ji Guangheng: Nearly All Joint-Stock Banks Are Reviving Corporate Banking, and the Pressure Is Building

Deep News08-17

At its 2026 interim results conference held on August 17, Ping An Bank Co., Ltd. President Ji Guangheng noted that corporate banking serves as a resilient option during periods of economic downturn. "When the economic cycle brings intense pressure, corporate banking is a strong instrument to weather the cycle. After the Chinese New Year this year, nearly all joint-stock banks have been reviving their corporate banking operations, and a few are even considering a much stronger push in this area," he said.

Ji acknowledged the growing competitive strain, stating, "As a result, our corporate banking business is under significant pressure this year. When everyone else starts focusing on corporate banking, the pressure naturally mounts. In this process, we should broaden revenue sources, reduce costs, enhance quality, improve efficiency, and strictly control expenses."

The remarks underscore the intensifying rivalry in China's banking sector, as lenders increasingly pivot toward corporate lending to offset headwinds in retail and consumer finance amid a challenging macro environment.
