JD.com's Government & Enterprise Unit Bolsters Emergency Supply Chain Resilience to Support Guangxi Flood Relief Efforts

Deep News07-09

In recent days, continuous heavy rainfall triggered by Typhoon Maysak has severely impacted Guangxi, causing widespread concern across society as numerous areas grapple with the disaster.

JD.com swiftly activated its emergency support mechanisms, mobilizing a combination of logistics, medical, and philanthropic resources to deploy to the front lines. The company's first batch of 20,000 essential relief supplies has successfully arrived at the material reception point in Hengzhou, Nanning, working to address the urgent daily needs of displaced residents.

Concurrently, JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business unit proactively engaged with local flood control operations, precisely responding to regional material demands by leveraging its established supply chain for rapid coordination and allocation of various disaster relief items. The platform simultaneously launched a dedicated zone for flood control supply security, continuing to provide end-to-end supply chain support for multiple public welfare organizations, ensuring comprehensive and timely delivery of materials to the affected areas.

On the evening of July 6th, Yunbiao Town, Maling Town in Hengzhou City, and Binyang County in Nanning were hit by flooding. The local Emergency Management Bureau urgently requested material support from JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business, needing over 400,000 items including bottled water, instant noodles, dry rations, and lighting candles, with a requirement for same-day delivery to the disaster zone.

The Guangxi regional team of JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business responded rapidly, immediately forming a specialized task force, establishing emergency communication channels, and coordinating resources across procurement, sales, and logistics to work through the night. That same evening, they managed to deliver batches of stockpiled emergency supplies to various affected towns in Hengzhou, completing the replenishment for Binyang County the following day. For scarce daily necessities, the unit quickly coordinated with brands like Master Kong and Uni-President to secure food supplies. For non-conventional items like candles, they arranged emergency cross-province transfers from external merchants to rush supplies to the frontline. In areas inaccessible by road, JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business collaborated with emergency departments to initiate an airdrop delivery mode, parachuting emergency living supplies such as water and ready-to-eat food to designated reception points in the disaster zone, effectively safeguarding the basic living requirements of the affected population.

Addressing the critical issue of widespread power outages and lack of lighting for nighttime rescue operations, on July 8th, under the guidance of the Nanning municipal government, JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business and JD Sports jointly donated nearly 3,000 emergency lighting devices from the mobile lighting brand OLIGHT to the Nanning Emergency Management Bureau's disaster relief material reserve center. This batch included portable flashlights, high-intensity flashlights, and laser pointer flashlights. Transported via dedicated JD Logistics vehicles and personnel, the supplies were promptly delivered to the disaster area, providing crucial lighting support for frontline rescue operations and resident evacuation sites.

JD.com's founder and Chairman of the Board, Mr. Richard Liu, has established an internal company rule: whenever a disaster occurs anywhere in the country, the manager of the nearest JD.com warehouse has the authority to donate any supplies needed by the disaster area from that warehouse without needing prior approval. Simultaneously, JD.com will promptly form an emergency support team to ensure dedicated transportation for relief materials.

From sourcing and material preparation to overnight distribution, JD.com's Government & Enterprise Business has leveraged its robust supply chain capabilities to fully support government-led disaster relief efforts. Moving forward, the unit will continue to monitor the flood situation and public livelihood needs in Nanning and surrounding affected areas in Guangxi. Under the unified guidance of government departments, it will actively participate in all aspects of flood control, disaster relief, and subsequent livelihood support work.
