In September 2026, delivery volumes across major automakers continued to diverge.
BYD Company Limited (ASX: 002594) sold 463,561 new energy vehicles in September, up 16.98% year-on-year, setting a new monthly high for the year and extending its recovery from a weak start. This marked the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. Sales rose 5.28% from August, the seventh straight monthly increase. In the third quarter, BYD's new energy vehicle sales reached 1,323,065 units, up 18.75% year-on-year and 19.41% quarter-on-quarter. After four consecutive quarters of declining sales, the third quarter returned to year-on-year growth.
GEELY AUTO (ASX: 00175) posted its highest monthly sales record of the year in September, with the decline in domestic sales narrowing; however, exports, the pillar of its growth, fell month-on-month for the first time this year. A total of 292,168 vehicles were sold in September, up 6.97% year-on-year and 8.13% month-on-month. This was the highest monthly sales volume of the year and the third consecutive month of year-on-year growth exceeding 5%. Geely exported 106,685 vehicles in September, up 162.35% year-on-year, but down 3.10% from 110,094 in August. It had previously set monthly export records for eight consecutive months. Exports accounted for 37% of total sales in September, down from 41% in August. Geely's sales in China reached 185,483 vehicles in September, the highest monthly sales record since January, despite a year-on-year decline of 20.21%. The decline narrowed for the second consecutive month, down from 25.22% in August and 29.12% in July.
Great Wall Motor Company Limited (ASX: 02333) sold 114,944 vehicles in September, down 13.99% year-on-year, although up 1.37% month-on-month. This was the largest year-on-year decline since January 2025. From January to September, Great Wall sold 920,302 vehicles, down 0.33% year-on-year. As of the end of August, its cumulative sales were still up 1.98% year-on-year. Great Wall's overseas sales reached 60,019 vehicles in September, up 19.40% year-on-year, the slowest growth rate this year. September overseas sales fell 4.00% from the record 62,517 in August, accounting for 52.22% of total September sales. Overseas sales in the first nine months totaled 475,977 vehicles, up 42.43% year-on-year. Great Wall's sales in China were 54,925 vehicles in September, down about 34% year-on-year, the eleventh consecutive month of decline. However, its domestic sales rose about 8% from August.
NIO delivered 37,408 vehicles in September, up 7.65% year-on-year and 4.39% month-on-month, ending two consecutive months of month-on-month declines. Third-quarter deliveries totaled 109,178 vehicles, up 25.39% year-on-year, in line with its guidance range of 108,000 to 111,000 vehicles. NIO delivered 21,318 vehicles in September, up 55.29% year-on-year. The Onvo brand delivered 8,763 vehicles, down 42.52% year-on-year, the second consecutive month of year-on-year decline. Firefly delivered a record 7,327 vehicles, up 26.87% year-on-year and 25.21% from August. In the first nine months, NIO delivered 300,301 vehicles, up 49.24% year-on-year.
XPeng Inc. (ASX: 09868) delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, down 0.78% year-on-year but up 5.50% month-on-month, reaching the highest monthly level of the year and ending three consecutive months of year-on-year growth. Third-quarter deliveries hit a record 118,390 vehicles, up 2.05% year-on-year, slightly above the midpoint of its guidance range of 115,000 to 121,000 vehicles. In the first nine months, XPeng delivered 284,367 vehicles, down 9.20% year-on-year, a narrower decline than the 10.49% in the first eight months. Mona L03 deliveries exceeded 10,000 vehicles in September, while flagship GX deliveries were 7,224 vehicles, exceeding 7,000 for three consecutive months.
Li Auto (ASX: 02015) delivered 31,817 vehicles in September, down 6.29% year-on-year and 15.56% month-on-month, failing to extend August's year-on-year growth momentum. Third-quarter deliveries were 99,964 vehicles, up 7.24% year-on-year and 1.66% from the second quarter, close to the upper end of its guidance range of 95,000 to 100,000 vehicles. In the first nine months, Li Auto delivered 293,436 vehicles, down 1.25% year-on-year, a wider decline than the 0.60% in the first eight months. The new Li L6 delivered more than 10,000 vehicles in September. The company also plans to launch the new Li i6 in late October and begin deliveries in early November.
Leapmotor delivered 105,656 vehicles globally in September, up 58.51% year-on-year and 2.45% month-on-month, the third consecutive month of deliveries exceeding 100,000 vehicles. Third-quarter deliveries hit a record 310,052 vehicles, up 78.34% year-on-year and 25.87% from the second quarter. In the first nine months, Leapmotor delivered 666,539 vehicles, up 68.52% year-on-year, already exceeding its full-year 2025 total of 596,555 vehicles. This represents about 66.7% of its annual target of 1 million vehicles. It still needs to deliver 333,461 vehicles in the final three months, averaging about 111,154 per month, roughly 1 million above September's level.
Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance delivered 37,490 vehicles in September, down 29.15% year-on-year and 10.95% month-on-month, the fourth consecutive year of year-on-year decline and the third consecutive month of month-on-month decline. In the first nine months, it delivered 367,229 vehicles, up 5.27% year-on-year, a significant slowdown from the 11.42% growth in the first eight months. Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance said cumulative deliveries across all its models have exceeded 1.56 million vehicles. The September sales decline was due to the launch or pre-sale of the new Zhijie R7, Zhijie RX, Xiangjie V8, and the new Wenjie M8 during the month.
Geely Zeekr delivered 37,216 vehicles in September, up 103.85% year-on-year and 0.64% month-on-month. The brand set monthly delivery records for the sixth consecutive month and achieved year-on-year and month-on-month growth for the eighth consecutive month. In the first nine months, Zeekr delivered 288,404 vehicles, up 100.84% year-on-year. Cumulative deliveries since deliveries began in 2021 have reached 931,293 vehicles. Zeekr 9X delivered 7,225 vehicles in September, supported by capacity ramp-up of the five-seat version. Zeekr 7X sales have exceeded 10,000 vehicles for three consecutive months.
XIAOMI-W (ASX: 01810) delivered more than 40,000 vehicles in September, reaching the highest monthly level of the year, but did not disclose specific figures or breakdowns by model. Xiaomi delivered at least 286,475 vehicles in the first nine months. Based on this minimum disclosed figure, it has completed about 52.1% of its annual target of 550,000 vehicles.
Others: SAIC-GM-Wuling delivered 132,045 vehicles in September, down 15.13% year-on-year but up 0.9% month-on-month. GAC Aion and Hyptec business units delivered a total of 35,494 vehicles in September, up 21.91% year-on-year, achieving growth for seven consecutive months. Deepal delivered 30,185 vehicles in September, down 10.23% year-on-year but up 5.32% from August. Voyah delivered 13,025 vehicles in September. In the first nine months, its deliveries totaled 115,481 vehicles, up 19% year-on-year.
