On July 19, news emerged that several GAC AION S vehicles have experienced issues such as cell swelling, electrolyte leakage, and insulation faults this year. The batteries in these vehicles are supplied by CALB.
CALB issued an "Announcement on CALB Providing Direct Battery System Maintenance Services for GAC AION AION S" on the evening of July 18. On the same evening, GAC Aion released an "Announcement on the Upgrade of Warranty Services for Some GAC Aion Vehicles Equipped with 177Ah Batteries."
In its announcement, CALB stated that it has recently noted that some GAC Aion AION S vehicles equipped with its batteries have experienced battery system malfunctions under specific conditions. In response to these vehicle issues, the company has immediately initiated related maintenance work through GAC Aion's 4S dealerships. The company has a comprehensive quality assurance and after-sales service mechanism and is responsible for the quality of its products throughout their lifecycle.
The announcement indicates that owners of vehicles using CALB batteries who encounter battery system failures can go directly to CALB service points for free inspections. Based on the inspection results, they can receive free battery system repairs and dedicated maintenance services according to standard procedures.
GAC Aion's announcement stated that for models equipped with the CALB 177Ah lithium iron phosphate battery, the company is implementing three measures effective immediately. First, the battery warranty period is being extended from 8 years or 150,000 kilometers to 8 years or 300,000 kilometers. Second, battery big data monitoring will be enhanced. For any anomalies detected, GAC Aion will promptly contact the user and invite them back to a service center for a free inspection. Based on the monitoring results, GAC Aion's nationwide sales and service network will provide relevant users with free repairs or free battery pack replacement services. Third, for vehicle operation affected by battery repair or pack replacement, GAC Aion will provide subsidies to owners whose repair time exceeds five days, in accordance with relevant national regulations.
