China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission have jointly released the "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Electronic Information Manufacturing Industry," signaling a major push to accelerate the large-scale application of the BeiDou navigation system.
The plan specifically calls for advancing BeiDou's deployment from industry-specific uses to universal public adoption, marking a strategic pivot in the country's approach to satellite navigation technology. This move is designed to make BeiDou an integral part of daily life, not just a tool for specialized sectors.
To achieve this, the plan emphasizes the need to bolster research and development in key technologies underpinning BeiDou, including chip design, algorithms, anti-jamming capabilities, and satellite-ground integration. The goal is to overcome technical bottlenecks and create a comprehensive, end-to-end technology supply chain that ensures long-term self-reliance and security.
Aligned with the broader national Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) infrastructure strategy, the initiative encourages the collaborative development of BeiDou navigation, satellite internet, and space-based remote sensing. By integrating these capabilities, the government aims to connect the entire industrial chain, from chips and antennas to terminals, systems, and services, deepening the integration of space-time information technology across all sectors of the economy.
Furthermore, the plan outlines forward-looking steps to build out satellite internet infrastructure, expand the application scenarios for direct-to-device satellite connectivity, and improve the overall terminal ecosystem to foster innovation and market growth in this high-tech arena.
