On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the results of its 2025 academician selection, with Feng Jianghua, Chief Scientist of CRRC, being elected as an academician.
Feng Jianghua, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chief Scientist at CRRC, is an expert in high-speed train traction control technology. After graduating from university in 1989, he joined CRRC Zhuzhou Institute and has since risen from an ordinary engineer to a leading figure in China's high-speed rail traction system R&D. Over the past 36 years, he has spearheaded the evolution of traction technology from the "China Star" and "Harmony" series to the "Fuxing" and "CR450" models, propelling China's high-speed rail from a follower to a global leader.
His achievements include four national-level science and technology awards, three international and national invention gold medals, and the formulation of three international and eight national standards. He has also authored 76 invention patents, 72 research papers, and three monographs. Recognized as a top-tier talent in China's "National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project" and the "National Ten Thousand Talents Plan," Feng has received numerous honors, including the National Innovation Excellence Medal, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.
The 2025 academician selection saw 71 new members elected, with a focus on critical national needs, strategic security, industrial upgrading, emerging and interdisciplinary fields, as well as researchers contributing significantly to major national projects.
CRRC will continue to strengthen its support for cultivating top-tier scientific talent, expanding its strategic team in high-end equipment R&D for transportation and energy sectors, and bolstering China's self-reliance in advanced technology.
In the rail transportation sector, four experts were elected as academicians:
1. **Feng Jianghua** – CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute (Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering Division) – Specialized in high-power electric traction and control for rail transit. 2. **Gao Shibin** – Southwest Jiaotong University (Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering Division) – Expert in high-speed rail power supply technology and equipment. 3. **Xiao Mingqing** – China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group (Civil, Hydraulic, and Architectural Engineering Division) – Leading designer for major railway and urban rail tunnel projects. 4. **Yu Zhiwu** – Central South University (Civil, Hydraulic, and Architectural Engineering Division) – Chief Scientist at the National Engineering Research Center for High-Speed Railway Construction Technology.
The list follows the official order of announcement by the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
