Hong Kong's three major stock indices all posted gains in midday trading on August 7. As of the break, the Hang Seng Index rose 0.15%, the Hang Seng Tech Index climbed 0.34%, and the State-Owned Enterprises Index edged up 0.06%.

Tech stocks showed mixed results, with Lenovo Group surging over 2% and Bilibili Inc falling more than 1%. Biotechnology stocks led the gains, with Zai Lab Limited jumping over 15%. The semiconductor sector saw broad strength, as GigaDevice Semiconductor advanced more than 8%, while AI application stocks remained active, with Zhipu AI and MiniMax both climbing over 17%.

Biotechnology stocks were among the top performers, with Zai Lab Limited rising over 15%. A wave of earnings-related announcements from innovative drug companies has recently emerged. From BeiGene, Ltd reporting a net profit increase of more than sixfold year-on-year, to WuXi AppTec Co Ltd significantly raising its full-year revenue guidance, and Innovent Biologics and Rongchang Biosciences each delivering on their growth narratives, the innovative drug supply chain is entering a window of resonance between "earnings realization and intensive catalysts." According to data from the National Medical Products Administration, China's innovative drug out-licensing deals reached 81 in the first half of the year, with a total transaction value of approximately $110 billion, already hitting 80% of the full-year 2025 level, marking a new half-year record.

The semiconductor sector saw broad gains, with GigaDevice Semiconductor rising more than 8%. The latest data shows that as of July 31, well-known retail investor Ge Weidong held 16.4467 million shares of GigaDevice Semiconductor, accounting for 2.34% of the company's total shares, making him the fourth-largest shareholder. Compared to his holdings of 16.2616 million shares at the end of the first quarter of 2026, he increased his stake by 185,100 shares.

AI application stocks were active, with Zhipu AI surging over 17%. Domestic large model developer DeepSeek recently announced plans to broadly increase its API service pricing shortly, with the adjustment expected to be significant and specific details to be communicated later. As a key force that previously drove price cuts in the industry, DeepSeek's announcement of a substantial price hike has directly sparked strong market expectations for a restructuring of the pricing system in the large model sector and an improvement in the commercialization ecosystem. Market analysts suggest that DeepSeek's plan to raise API prices is a significant signal for the commercialization of the domestic large model industry, shifting competition from "low-price market share grabbing" to a comprehensive battle involving capabilities, scenarios, costs, and monetization efficiency.
