OpenAI is reportedly seeking to raise massive funding, targeting up to $1 trillion, from some of its largest technology partners to support the escalating demands of its AI operations. According to a person familiar with the matter, NVIDIA, an existing investor whose chips power OpenAI's artificial intelligence models, is currently in discussions to invest up to $300 billion. Microsoft, a long-term supporter holding exclusive rights to sell OpenAI's models to its cloud customers, is negotiating an investment of less than $100 billion. Meanwhile, Amazon, a potential new investor, is in talks to commit significantly more than $100 billion, with the amount possibly exceeding $200 billion.
Two sources indicated that these potential investments would complement those from the existing investor SoftBank, which is also negotiating an investment of up to $300 billion. Should this extraordinary funding round materialize, it could alleviate investor concerns regarding the company's cash burn. Public market investors have recently expressed skepticism about OpenAI's ability to meet its spending commitments to Oracle and Microsoft. The company's valuation prior to the new funding round could reach $7.3 trillion.
