The global boom in artificial intelligence has fueled a sharp rise in demand for memory chips, leading SK Hynix to add more than 2,000 new employees last year, according to industry sources on Sunday.

This significant hiring expansion is particularly notable against the backdrop of a general slowdown in South Korea's overall job market.

Data reveals that by the end of 2025, the total workforce at SK Hynix reached 34,549, marking an increase of 2,159 employees compared to the previous year.

Over the same period, the number of employees in the Device Solutions Division, the chip business unit of Samsung Electronics, stood at 78,064, showing a slight decrease from the previous year's figure of 78,699.

By the end of last year, the combined number of chip-related personnel at these two technology giants totaled 112,613, representing an increase of 1,554 year-on-year.
