On June 11th, the third installment of Bengbu City's 2026 series of activities promoting the spirit of scientists was held at Wuhe County's New Town Experimental School.
Organized by the Bengbu Association for Science and Technology, the Municipal Education Bureau, and the Municipal Working Committee on Caring for the Next Generation, the event was co-hosted by the Anhui Popular Science Writers Association, along with the Wuhe County counterparts in science and technology, education, and youth care committees, as well as the County People's Armed Forces Department, with the New Town Experimental School providing support.
Focusing on the theme of "Exploring Quantum Mysteries, Strengthening National Defense Security," Dr. Cheng Xi delivered a keynote lecture titled "War, Quantum Technology, and National Defense Security." The presentation skillfully balanced entertainment and expertise, beginning with ancient optical studies by Mozi, tracing the development of quantum mechanics, and explaining information encryption techniques from ancient to modern times, both in China and abroad.
A significant portion was dedicated to China's world-leading quantum information encryption technology and the diverse applications of quantum technology in the national defense sector, making complex quantum concepts accessible and understandable.
The lecture featured interactive segments such as prize quizzes and surveys, which actively engaged the students and reinforced their grasp of the scientific knowledge presented.
The event successfully integrated the popularization of science, the promotion of the scientist's spirit, and national defense security education. It not only broadened the students' scientific horizons but also effectively ignited their enthusiasm for exploring the unknown and pursuing technological innovation.
It is understood that the Bengbu City 2026 series for promoting the spirit of scientists, themed "The Light of Science Shines on the Pearl City," will continue throughout the year. More than ten subsequent events are planned to be held in primary and secondary schools across the city's three counties and six districts, aiming to embed the spirit of science in the hearts of the youth and lay a solid foundation for the city's young people in scientific and technological innovation.
