The ongoing Spokane Complex Fire in Washington State continues to wreak havoc, prompting moving and self-storage rental company U-Haul to activate its disaster relief program. The initiative provides affected residents with 30 days of complimentary self-storage and access to U-Box portable containers.
The Spokane Complex Fire, comprising three separate wildfires, has scorched over 7,700 acres of land. This has forced approximately 60,000 people to evacuate their homes, with more than 600 structures destroyed. Local officials have described this as one of the most severe natural disasters the region has ever faced.
Seven U-Haul locations within the Spokane metropolitan area are participating in this relief effort, including stores in East Central, Midtown, North Side, West Spokane, and Spokane Valley. Affected residents can visit any participating store nearby or call to arrange for free storage services. The availability of free storage space and U-Box rentals is subject to supply, and U-Box units are only stored at participating locations; a small fee applies for delivery.
Since its founding in 1945, U-Haul has consistently provided assistance to communities hit by natural disasters through its disaster relief program. From 2024 to early 2025, this program operated across 725 centers, supporting 32 separate disaster relief operations and providing free storage services to nearly 30,000 customers. The company also serves as an official disaster relief partner of the American Red Cross.
