Clean Energy Sector in Tibet's Qamdo Accelerates into High-Gear Development

The clean energy industry in Qamdo, Tibet, is rapidly accelerating its development, marking a strong start to the region's 15th Five-Year Plan period.

A press conference was held in Lhasa to announce that the sector has entered a phase of swift growth.

Qamdo is strategically located on the eastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, at the intersection of Tibet, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Yunnan, and is rich in clean energy resources.

The city's technical development potential for hydropower, wind, and solar energy exceeds 400 million kilowatts.

Local officials reported that since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, major projects like the Southeast Tibet (Yucha) and Jinsha River Upper Reach integrated water-wind-solar power bases have been planned and implemented.

The ±800 kilovolt direct current power transmission channel from the Jinsha River upper reaches to Hubei has been completed and put into operation.

The total installed power capacity, both completed and under construction, has reached 19 million kilowatts, with completed capacity at 6.6 million kilowatts.

These figures represent increases of 2.79 times and 19.2 times, respectively, compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan, fixed-asset investment in Qamdo's clean energy sector accounted for nearly 50% of the total, a proportion that is expected to continue rising.

It is projected that cumulative investment in local clean energy development will reach 300 billion yuan during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, becoming the primary engine driving the city's economic growth.

The region has attracted multiple enterprises to establish clean energy equipment manufacturing industries.

Upon completion of the first phase of these projects, the estimated annual output value is expected to be 2.4 billion yuan.

Currently, among the city's 22 large-scale enterprises, energy generation companies constitute 41%.

Annual electricity generation has surpassed 2.391 billion kilowatt-hours, while electricity consumption stands at 3.091 billion kilowatt-hours.

With 2026 as the inaugural year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, local officials stated that project construction is advancing comprehensively.

In the first half of this year, investment completed in the clean energy sector amounted to 7.173 billion yuan, accounting for 40.8% of the city's total completed investment.

The installed clean energy power capacity, both completed and under construction, has increased to 21.63 million kilowatts.
