NVIDIA's founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, told graduates at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh yesterday that the demand for AI infrastructure is creating "a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reindustrialize America and restore this nation's capacity to build."
While many U.S. college graduates fear AI might destroy their career aspirations, Huang pointed to boundless opportunities, stating that "a new industry is being born. A new era of science and discovery is beginning... I can't imagine a more exciting time to start your life's work."
NVIDIA, the AI chipmaker and the world's most valuable company, informed the 5,800 graduates receiving undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that building AI will require plumbers, electricians, ironworkers, and construction laborers for chip plants, data centers, and advanced manufacturing facilities.
"No generation has had more powerful tools—or a greater opportunity—to enter the world than you," he said. "We are all on the same starting line. This is your moment to help shape the future. So, sprint, don't stroll."
"In every major technological revolution in history, fear and opportunity have always been intertwined," Huang added. "When society embraces technology with openness, responsibility, and optimism, we expand human potential far more than we diminish it."
