China's A-share markets saw a volatile session on August 14, with the three major indices opening higher collectively. The ChiNext Index briefly rose 1%. Rare earth and nonferrous metals sectors rallied, while stocks in glass fiber and electronic components surged. The chip and semiconductor sector was active mid-session, with memory chip stocks climbing higher. Companies such as Changxin Technology, De Ming Li, and GigaDevice rose. The lithium and power battery sectors also saw a breakout, while electricity and AI application stocks faced adjustments.

Hong Kong stocks opened lower and continued to decline, with both the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng Tech Index falling. The Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 1%. Tech stocks were mixed, with JD.com (JD) falling sharply by 9%, and Hua Hong Grace (HUA HONG GRACE) dropping nearly 10%. In contrast, SMIC and GigaDevice bucked the trend and rose. In the bond market, government bond futures fluctuated upward. In the commodity market, most domestic commodity futures fell, with precious metal futures leading the declines.

Commodities: Most domestic commodity futures fell. As of press time, lithium carbonate, coking coal, and glass rose over 1%. Hot-rolled coil, iron ore, rebar, pulp, asphalt, fuel oil, and eggs all moved higher. Meanwhile, Shanghai tin, soybean meal, alumina, Shanghai copper, coke, rapeseed, polysilicon, caustic soda, crude oil, industrial silicon, and rubber fell. Shanghai aluminum, stainless steel, and Shanghai nickel fell over 1%, while Shanghai gold, the container index, Shanghai silver, platinum, and palladium all fell by more than 2%.

The lithium battery concept rebounded during the session. Polivoly rose over 10%, while companies like Huasheng Lithium Battery, Lingpai Technology, Shida Shenghua, Hunan Yuneng, Haike Xinyuan, and Senior Material also saw gains.

China Rare Earth Holdings approached the daily limit-up, with other companies like Zhongxi Nonferrous, Jiuling Technology, Zhongke Magnetic, and Northern Rare Earth following the rise. Regarding the news, praseodymium neodymium oxide rose 22.42% in the first half of the year, dysprosium oxide rose 5.97%, and terbium oxide rose 8.37%. The upward trend in rare earth prices directly bolstered the operating income of companies in the industry chain. According to SMM statistics, among the 10 rare earth-related companies that have disclosed their semi-annual reports, performance express reports, or performance forecasts, all achieved varying degrees of growth in the first half of the year.

The Hang Seng Tech Index expanded its intraday decline to 1%. Hua Hong Grace (HUA HONG GRACE) fell over 9%, and JD.com (JD) fell over 8%. On the news front, Hua Hong Grace disclosed its second-quarter 2026 performance: the company's quarterly sales revenue reached a record high of $717.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 26.8% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 8.6%. Its gross margin was 16.5%, a 5.6 percentage point improvement year-on-year and a 3.5 percentage point increase quarter-on-quarter. In the second quarter of 2026, JD.com's revenue was 346.4 billion yuan, a slight year-on-year decrease of 2.9% but still exceeding market expectations. Operating profit turned from a loss to a profit of 4.5 billion yuan, showing a significant recovery in profitability. The core retail profit margin reached a new high for the promotional season, while losses in new businesses like food delivery continued to narrow, and marketing expenses were sharply reduced.

Konsheng Group hit the daily limit-up, and Aladdin rose over 15%, with companies like Jiebang Technology, Jintian Co., Ltd., Jingyan Technology, and Siquan New Materials following the rise. The super node concept was repeatedly active, with Gongjin Electronics rising for a second consecutive day, and companies like Star-Net Ruijie, Unisplendour, Haidaer, Feiling Cossio, and Ruijie Networks following the rise.
