Xiaomi's CEO Explains Decision to Only Disclose Firm Orders for SU7

During a media dialogue following the launch event for the SU7 GT and the "Human x Car x Home" ecosystem, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Corp., along with senior executives from the automotive division, addressed questions regarding the company's sales reporting.

When asked why Xiaomi Corp.'s automotive arm only releases data on locked-in orders, Lei Jun explained the rationale. He referenced the initial announcement for the SU7 last year, which claimed over 200,000 reservations within three minutes. This figure was met with widespread skepticism across the industry, with many questioning its validity. Consequently, the company decided to shift its public reporting exclusively to firm order numbers, which represent non-refundable commitments.

Regarding monthly delivery figures, Lei Jun stated that Xiaomi Corp. prefers not to get caught up in short-term sales competitions with other automakers. The company's philosophy is to maintain a steady focus, viewing car manufacturing as a decade-long endeavor where winning or losing based on a single month's sales is not the primary objective.
