HK Opening Bell09:23

Market Overview

The Hang Seng Index opened marginally firmer at 23,301.74, edging up 0.03% as investors weighed mixed global signals but found support in selective buying. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 0.18% to 7,876.57, while the Hang Seng Tech Index outperformed with a 0.55% advance to 3,775.60, extending the tech-led rebound. The Hang Seng China (Affiliated Corporations) Index slipped 0.38%, highlighting a still-patchy tone beneath the headline gains.

Early strength centred on chipmakers and healthcare plays, mirroring overnight optimism toward semiconductor demand and steady policy support for China’s biopharma sector. Autos and EV supply-chain names also caught bids after encouraging mainland sales data, whereas energy majors and infrastructure contractors came under pressure alongside softer crude prices and cautious policy headlines.

Opening Summary

Benchmark indices kicked off November trade on a resilient note, with the Hang Seng holding above the 23,300 handle and mainland-heavy HSCEI edging higher. The tech-focused HSTECH once again outpaced broad gauges, bolstered by selective buying in semiconductors and platform names, though mainland property proxies remained a drag.

Within heavyweight tech, sentiment was constructive: Xiaomi added nearly 1.6% after upbeat October shipment data, while Tencent and Kuaishou firmed on expectations of improving advertising trends. Gains were partially offset by softness in Baidu and Meituan as investors rotated toward chip and AI hardware plays.

Individual movers were lively. Leveraged semiconductor product CSOP SK Hynix 2x surged almost 6%, tracking a global chip rebound. Healthcare CROs Novogene spin-off NOVOSENSE and drug-research names Asymchem and Tigermed rose 3–4% on policy tailwinds, while beauty chain Fameglow plunged over 22% on profit-taking following recent volatility.

Thematic action centred on biotech, semiconductors and EV supply chains, echoing Beijing’s latest support rhetoric for strategic industries. Auto bellwethers BYD and Li Auto both traded firmer, but oil & gas names such as CNOOC slipped alongside weaker crude futures. No major IPOs debuted this morning, keeping liquidity focused on secondary names.
