Walking through Naigasha Village in Zhongshan Township's Luyi administrative area, one encounters expansive fields of newly planted sweet persimmon saplings. The young trees stand resiliently in the breeze as agricultural workers diligently tend to the soil and water them, creating a bustling scene of productivity. To broaden income avenues for residents and strengthen the village collective economy, the township's Party committee and government have proactively charted a course for industrial development this year. Through study tours, on-site surveys, and scientific planning, they have established a cultivation base covering over 50 mu in Naigasha Village. A total of 2,500 saplings have been planted, with the first harvest expected in approximately three years. This promising orchard has become a new highlight in the area's specialty agriculture, injecting continuous vitality into rural revitalization.
Industrial prosperity is the cornerstone of rural development. The township has organized multiple delegations to study advanced practices in specialty fruit cultivation and under-forest economy development. Concurrently, township officials conducted extensive field surveys across various villages. After thorough analysis considering local soil characteristics, climate conditions, and geographical advantages, they finalized the development of sweet persimmon cultivation, an industry with promising market prospects. From land transfer and field leveling to the selection of high-quality saplings and standardized planting, officials have provided comprehensive guidance and strict oversight throughout the entire process to ensure the project's successful establishment.
Based on the fruit trees' growth cycle, this sweet persimmon base is projected to yield its first harvest in three years, gradually achieving stable returns. "This land previously yielded low returns from traditional fruit crops. Now, with the township leading us in developing sweet persimmons, we not only earn income from land transfer but also gain employment opportunities here. Our future looks much brighter!" said Yu Banghua, a villager from Naigasha, with a smile. According to the project manager, sweet persimmons are noted for their excellent taste, good storage qualities, and strong market potential. At full production, the estimated yield could exceed 2,000 kilograms per mu. Based on current market prices, the output value per mu is expected to surpass 10,000 yuan.
These small saplings carry significant hopes for local livelihoods. Following the project's implementation, a series of farming activities—including planting, weeding, fertilizing, and maintenance—will provide numerous local job opportunities for nearby villagers. This approach effectively mobilizes underutilized rural labor, allowing farmers to share in the benefits of industrial growth. Furthermore, once the sweet persimmons reach full production, the project's proximity to tourist attractions like the Lubuge Lesser Three Gorges and Feilong Waterfall is expected to spur the development of agritourism. This integration will create a virtuous cycle of "beautifying the countryside, increasing industrial income, and strengthening the collective economy."
In recent years, Zhongshan Township has prioritized industrial cultivation in its rural revitalization strategy. By leveraging local resources and adhering to a principle of adapting measures to local conditions, scientific planning, and diversified development, the township continues to optimize its agricultural industrial structure. The sweet persimmon base represents a starting point, evolving from a single successful project toward a broader pattern of "one specialty per village with multiple industries flourishing." This shift moves from the short-term benefit of job creation to establishing a long-term mechanism for sustained growth of the village collective economy. Zhongshan Township is actively fostering a range of practical, sustainable, and income-generating specialty industries, striving to transform local resources into industrial advantages.
For rural areas to thrive, industry must lead the way. Moving forward, Zhongshan Township will continue to focus on the subsequent care and technical guidance for the sweet persimmon cultivation base. Simultaneously, it will work to optimize the overall industrial layout and extend the agricultural value chain. Using various specialty industrial projects as leverage, the township aims to persistently widen avenues for resident income growth and continuously solidify the foundation for rural development.
