Metax Integrated Circuits (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently inaugurated its Beijing AI Research Institute and Corporate Open Source Center. Founder Chen Weiliang stated at the opening ceremony that the company open-sourced its self-developed MXMACA software stack in 2025, which has since attracted over 300,000 developer users. With the launch of the Beijing AI Research Institute and Corporate Open Source Center, the company will focus on open-source frameworks, toolchains, and community co-building as core drivers to further promote openness, sharing, and continuous optimization in the domestic GPU industry.
According to Metax's strategic plan, the Beijing AI Research Institute will concentrate on exploring how to generate higher-density intelligence under a given unit computing cost. In terms of positioning, the institute will serve as an efficient collaborative bridge, deeply connecting Metax with the latest advancements in academia and the open-source community within the AI infrastructure (AI Infra) field.
In research direction, the institute will pursue co-design of open-source, full-stack systems to fundamentally reconfigure the cost structure and intelligence density of tokens. The goal is not to blindly chase peak computing power, but to significantly reduce the cost per token through heterogeneous computing architectures, memory subsystem optimization, and sparse computing paradigms. Simultaneously, through hardware-software co-optimized algorithms, each token will carry richer inference logic.
On site, Metax signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the China Guanghua Science and Technology Foundation to jointly foster the construction of an open-source ecosystem. Furthermore, Metax, in collaboration with multiple partners, launched the "Youth Open Source Special Fund Seed Plan," which aims to provide comprehensive training for university students and support the growth of young open-source talent.
