According to reports, Sony Pictures has tapped Paul King, director of "Paddington" and "Wonka," to adapt the globally popular designer toy IP LABUBU for the big screen, just one month after acquiring its film rights.
Paul King will direct the theatrical feature, co-producing with Department M (known for "The Christophers" and the remake of "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle") and producer Wenxin She (credited for "Wish Dragon" and "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood").
The project is reportedly in early development, with no screenwriter confirmed yet. Sony is collaborating with Chinese pop toy retailer and brand Pop Mart on this adaptation.
No official response has been received from Pop Mart regarding this matter.
