¥19.554 Billion! China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited Signs Three Major Renewable Energy Projects in Saudi Arabia

Deep News10-20

Recently, a consortium led by China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited has officially signed EPC contracts for three significant renewable energy projects with a Saudi Arabian partnership, totaling an impressive ¥19.554 billion. These projects encompass the core sectors of wind and solar power, marking a new peak in Sino-Saudi energy cooperation. The signed projects include the Saudi PIF Phase Five 1GW Shakila wind farm, the 2GW Stella wind farm, and the Phase Six 2GW Foris solar project. These not only signify China Energy Engineering's first breakthrough in the Middle Eastern wind energy market but also continue its deep-rooted achievements in Saudi Arabia's renewable energy sector—bringing the total signed project value in the country to over ¥80 billion.

From geographical layout to engineering planning, the three projects demonstrate strategic value and technical strength. The Shakila and Stella wind projects are located in the vicinity of Riyadh Province, and upon completion, will collectively become the world's largest onshore wind projects. The Foris solar project is situated about 85 kilometers north of Jeddah in Makkah Province, creating a complementary green energy landscape with the wind projects.

All three projects encompass a full construction chain from design and procurement to manufacturing and commissioning, with construction periods ranging from 26 to 30 months. A limited start-up agreement has already been signed, with plans for them to enter commercial operation sequentially between Q4 2027 and Q1 2028. The total expected generation over 25 years for these new energy projects is approximately 569.286 billion kilowatt-hours, translating to a reduction of nearly 560 million tons of CO2 emissions, illustrating their significant environmental and social value.

Upon completion, these three projects are expected to provide stable, clean energy to over 2 million local households, supporting Saudi Arabia's goal of having 50% of its energy coming from renewable sources by 2030, and assisting its vision for net-zero emissions by 2060.

This collaboration is a vivid implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative and Saudi Arabia's "2030 Vision". As a leader in the global energy and power sector, China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited will leverage its integrated advantages across the entire industrial chain to export Chinese technology, equipment, and standards, building an international model for green infrastructure similar to the previous Al-Shubach 2.6GW solar power project. In the context of Saudi Arabia's accelerated energy transformation and its $187 billion clean energy investment strategy, China Energy Engineering's sustained efforts not only consolidate its leading position in the Middle Eastern market but also further deepen Sino-Saudi economic cooperation in the green and low-carbon sectors, contributing wisdom and strength to the global energy transition.
