The first trial verdict was announced in the bribery case involving Liu Weidong, former member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of China Ordnance Equipment Group Co., Ltd. On April 14, 2026, the Nanyang Intermediate People's Court in Henan Province publicly announced the first-instance judgment in the case. The defendant, Liu Weidong, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for accepting bribes and fined 4 million yuan. Illegal gains and interest obtained from his crimes were confiscated and turned over to the state treasury.
According to court findings, between 1999 and 2025, Liu Weidong leveraged his positions—including General Manager of Xiangfan Dongfeng Auto Electric Co., Ltd., Head of the Cooperation and Supporting Department at Dongfeng Motor Corporation Truck Company, Party Committee Member and General Manager of Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile Co., Ltd., Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., General Manager of the Passenger Vehicle Company of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of China Ordnance Equipment Group Co., Ltd., and Chairman of China Chang'an Automobile Group Co., Ltd.—to provide assistance to certain entities and individuals in matters such as business operations and promotions. In return, he accepted money and property equivalent to more than 41.39 million yuan.
The Nanyang Intermediate People's Court determined that Liu Weidong's actions constituted the crime of bribery, with the amount involved being particularly large, warranting punishment according to law. However, considering that he truthfully confessed his crimes after being brought to justice, disclosed some bribery facts not yet known to investigators, expressed remorse, and actively returned illicit gains—with all bribes and proceeds having been recovered—the court granted him a lenient sentence. The judgment was rendered accordingly.
It was reported that the court held a public hearing on January 16, 2026. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, which was cross-examined by Liu Weidong and his defense counsel. Both sides fully expressed their views under the court's supervision, and Liu made a final statement, admitting guilt and expressing remorse. More than 30 individuals, including NPC deputies, CPPCC members, and members of the public, observed the proceedings.
