Bank of America Employee Charged in Singapore for Allegedly Organizing Christmas Eve Drug Party

Deep News12-26

A Bank of America employee has been charged in a Singapore court for allegedly organizing a drug-taking party on Christmas Eve.

According to a charge sheet made public on Friday, Shawn Loo Zhi Jian is accused of consuming methamphetamine, or "ice," at a gathering with former lawyer M. Ravi. Ravi subsequently died. The charge sheet does not link Loo to Ravi's death.

Based on his LinkedIn profile, Loo is an Assistant Vice President at the US bank's Singapore office. Inquiries sent via email have not yet received a response from him. A Bank of America spokesperson declined to comment.

Loo, aged 40, faces a potential maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and caning if convicted. Prosecutors indicated that additional charges may be filed. Loo is currently released on bail of S$20,000 ($15,575) and is scheduled to appear in court again on January 2.

Singapore's drug laws are notoriously stringent, with citizens or permanent residents facing the same penalties for drug consumption overseas as they would within the country.
