International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that the global economy "must move onto a higher growth trajectory." In a statement released alongside the IMF's 2026 Annual Report, she noted that "uncertainty remains high and the medium-term outlook is still weak."
"Price stability and financial stability are paramount," she said. "Thanks to sound policy frameworks and strong institutions, both are becoming pillars of economic resilience. However, fiscal challenges are mounting, even as the global economy continues to show resilience. The war in the Middle East is dampening growth and pushing up inflation."
She added: "Without a resilient private sector driven by AI investment and disciplined policymaking, the situation could have been far worse."
