On October 17, Shanghai Nanyang High School, in collaboration with the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Shanghai Institute for Global Governance and Area Studies, established the "Nanyang Rongchuang Academy" and the "Nanyang Huanyu College." At the high-quality development conference marking the 130th anniversary of Shanghai Nanyang High School held on the same day, the school history stage play "Wang Peisun and Nanyang High School" took everyone through a century of time, looking back on the story of former Principal Wang Peisun, who led Nanyang High School for fifty-two years.
Shanghai Nanyang High School is the first modern school independently founded by Chinese citizens. Over the past 130 years, from the "Three Outstanding Figures of Nanyang" to ten martyr alumni, from 23 academicians and more than 40 university presidents to countless workers in ordinary positions, generations of Nanyang graduates have set out from campus to serve wherever the nation needs them most.
Zhu Gaofeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in communication technology and management, planted the seeds of science in the Nanyang campus as a youth. Over the following decades, he devoted himself to the field of communications and won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Achievement Award. Jiang Xinxiong, former Minister of the Nuclear Industry and President of the Nanyang High School Alumni Association, set sail from the Nanyang campus and dedicated his life to the motherland's nuclear industry construction. Zhao Qizeng, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, devoted himself to the front line of national defense research and won the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. A number of Nanyang High School alumni also chose to return to campus and remain committed to the teaching podium.
Li Jin, Vice Principal of Nanyang High School, attended both the junior and senior high school divisions of Nanyang. In 1996, she returned to her alma mater to teach and has been rooted in the front line of education for 30 years. The teaching podium has become her choice without regret. The post-2000s students of Shanghai Nanyang High School formed the "Zhi Xing Lecture Group," carrying forward the educational philosophy of "advancing through knowledge and action," stepping out of the classroom, and telling the story of Nanyang and spreading China's story with the voice of youth.
The school carries forward its distinctive development of "Knowledge and Action Nanyang, Integrated Innovation," driven by a dual engine of "science plus humanities," practicing the "situational guidance learning" teaching paradigm, and deepening the reform of talent cultivation methods. Five teachers from physics, science education, mathematics, information technology, and English shared the exploratory path of science education at Nanyang High School, using the faint light of teaching to nourish the heart and enlighten the mind, cultivating new-era Nanyang students who possess scientific thinking, humanistic foundations, and an international perspective. A video message from Chen Qun, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, was played on site, sending expectations for the school's "15th Five-Year Plan" development and encouraging Nanyang High School to continue its century-old educational heritage and bravely shoulder the mission of cultivating talent. Representatives from the Nanyang High School "Knowledge and Action Mentor Group," including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Educational Press and Publication General Office, Shanghai Institute for Global Governance and Area Studies, Xietu Road Subdistrict of Xuhui District, Shanghai Fenglin Group, and Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, took the stage to form the Nanyang High School "15th Five-Year Plan" integrated development "Knowledge and Action Mentor Group."
