Following the launch event for the YU7 GT and other new products in Xiaomi's "Human x Car x Home" ecosystem, Xiaomi Group's Chairman and CEO Lei Jun, along with senior executives from the automotive division, engaged with the media.
At the event, Xiaomi unveiled the standard version of the YU7, priced at 233,500 yuan. Lei Jun stated that this price undercuts the Tesla Model Y by 30,000 yuan.
When asked about the rationale for reintroducing a standard version of the YU7, Lei Jun explained that Tesla is a globally respected company. From the very beginning of car manufacturing, the expectation from Xiaomi's fans has been to surpass Tesla. In the competition between the Xiaomi YU7 and the Tesla Model Y, sales over ten months have resulted in eight instances of trailing and two of leading. The absence of a base model put the company at a significant competitive disadvantage, prompting the decision to reintroduce the standard version. Lei Jun emphasized a commitment to earnestly learn from Tesla, acknowledging that catching up will require a year-by-year effort of gradual advancement.
