Cracker Barrel Launches $250,000 "Fuel & Food" Giveaway Amid High Gas Prices

Deep News05-19

High fuel costs are dampening travel enthusiasm, with 79% of Americans indicating that gas prices will affect their summer travel plans as prices hover above $4 per gallon. In response, iconic U.S. restaurant chain Cracker Barrel has announced the launch of a 10-week "Fuel Your Summer Road Trip" sweepstakes, featuring a total prize pool of $250,000.

From May 19 to July 26, Cracker Barrel Rewards members will earn one entry into the weekly drawing for each dine-in or delivery order of a full meal. Each week, 25 winners will be selected to receive a prize package valued at $1,000.

Sarah Moore, Chief Marketing Officer of Cracker Barrel, stated that road trips are synonymous with summer, and this initiative aims to help customers save money both at the gas station and the dining table, making travel plans more manageable.

Behind this substantial marketing effort lies the intense competition within the restaurant industry to attract customers during a period of high inflation. By directly addressing a key pain point for drivers with significant fuel-related incentives, Cracker Barrel seeks to draw more passing motorists into its locations.

Simultaneously, to coincide with the road trip season, Cracker Barrel is reintroducing a limited-time nostalgic "Campfire Meal" from the 1990s. For the first time, the chain is also launching a "Campfire Breakfast Skillet," featuring bacon and sausage, alongside a "Campfire Latte."

Amid analyst concerns about promotional costs, Cracker Barrel is attempting to leverage the combination of "gas subsidies" and high-margin retail merchandise to convert the summer traffic peak into tangible sales growth.
