At a State Council Information Office press conference held today (23rd) as part of the "15th Five-Year Plan" opening series, education officials revealed that China has established the world's largest and highest-quality education system, ranking globally at the forefront of educational access and equity.
The country's basic education now meets the average level of high-income nations, with a pre-primary gross enrollment rate of 92.9%, a compulsory education consolidation rate of 96.1%, and a senior high school gross enrollment rate of 92%. Daily two-hour comprehensive physical activity and 15-minute recess breaks have been fully implemented for primary and secondary students, contributing to a five-year consecutive decline in overall myopia rates.
Higher education has significantly enhanced its capacity to serve technological self-reliance and independent talent cultivation, accelerating the training of top-tier innovative personnel urgently needed for national strategies and industries. In 2025, universities led winning projects in three-quarters of the general categories of the National Science and Technology Awards, while vocational education supplied over 70% of newly added high-skilled talent to modern industries.
China's population that has received higher education has reached 270 million, and the international influence of its education sector continues to grow.
