Economists at Société Générale pointed out that although the eurozone's overall GDP growth slowed after strong expansion in the second half of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, this was entirely attributable to Ireland's performance. The eurozone's GDP grew by 0.3% in the fourth quarter, while Ireland's economy contracted by 0.6%.
The economists stated that, excluding Ireland, the eurozone's economic growth shows an upward trend, and the recent strengthening of the euro partially reflects this improved outlook. "Although last week's sharp jump in the euro certainly drew attention... the exchange rate level has not shown a significant difference compared to 2021."
