Stock Track | LI NING Soars 5.41% Intraday as Defamation Lawsuit Victory and Nike's Channel Shift Lift Sentiment

Stock Track07-29

LI NING shares surged 5.41% during intraday trading on Wednesday, reflecting a strong rally buoyed by multiple positive catalysts that have improved investor confidence in the Chinese sportswear leader.

The rally was partly driven by the company's announcement on July 28 that it had won a defamation lawsuit against several online accounts that had fabricated and spread false information, including fictitious claims about a wave of product returns and a stock price crash. The court ruled the defendants liable for damages, removing a key overhang on the stock. Additionally, the competitive landscape shifted favorably after Nike recently disclosed plans to reclaim its online distribution rights in mainland China starting next year. Analysts view this move as a short-term positive for domestic sports leaders like LI NING, which are well positioned to capture market share. Citi had already initiated a 30-day positive catalyst watch on LI NING on July 22, expressing confidence in the company's ability to gain Nike's China market share and maintaining a Buy rating.

The stock also benefits from longer-term strategic momentum following the June announcement of a 10-year partnership with NBA star Stephen Curry and the Curry Brand, a deal valued at over USD 400 million that underscores LI NING's global brand ambitions.
