DuPont de Nemours Inc announced on June 10th that its 12 healthcare manufacturing facilities in the United States have achieved 100% renewable electricity supply through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates. This move is a key component of the company's efforts to advance its 2035 sustainability goals and its 2050 net-zero carbon emissions commitment.
This transition encompasses 12 healthcare-related production sites in the US, with approximately 30,000 megawatt-hours of annual electricity consumption now matched with renewable energy generation within the country. This will effectively reduce the Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions from these facilities that were previously associated with grid electricity use.
Dean Childers, Vice President and General Manager of DuPont Healthcare Solutions, stated that introducing renewable power for these US healthcare manufacturing sites is a significant step in fulfilling the company's sustainability commitments, helping to build a more sustainable healthcare supply chain for customers and patients. Scott J Collick, DuPont's Chief Sustainability Officer, noted that over half of the company's global total electricity consumption already comes from renewable sources, and this announcement further advances DuPont's progress in meeting its RE100 initiative commitments.
DuPont's US production sites primarily manufacture medical packaging materials and components for medical devices and pharmaceuticals. This progress builds upon the company's ongoing decarbonization strategy. The company had previously set a target to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 75% from 2019 levels by 2035. DuPont CEO Lori Koch had previously highlighted the company's notable progress in its 2025 commitments to developing breakthrough technologies, reducing its environmental footprint, and deepening employee well-being and community prosperity.
Looking ahead, DuPont stated it will continue its commitment to expanding the use of renewable energy, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and assisting customers in advancing their own sustainability objectives.
