Shuanghui Development Plunges 5% Following Pork Antibiotic Residue Scandal, Company Responds

Deep News05-26

On May 26, Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co., Ltd. (000895.SZ) opened lower and continued to decline, with its share price dropping over 5% intraday. By the midday close, the stock was down 3.91% at 24.8 yuan per share.

The sell-off was triggered by a food safety supervision and sampling notice from the Heilongjiang Provincial Market Regulatory Administration, which has once again placed the domestic meat processing giant under intense scrutiny. The notice revealed that a batch of "pork hindquarter meat" produced by its controlled subsidiary, Wangkui Shuanghui Beidahuang Food Co., Ltd., was found to contain lincomycin residue as high as 7700μg/kg.

According to the "National Food Safety Standard for Maximum Residue Limits of Veterinary Drugs in Food" (GB31650-2019), the maximum residue limit for lincomycin in pig muscle is 200µg/kg. This indicates that the veterinary drug residue in this batch exceeded the standard by nearly 38 times, a significant overage that has drawn widespread public attention.

It is noteworthy that the involved company had raised an objection regarding the authenticity of the sampled product to the regulatory authorities, but the objection was ultimately dismissed in accordance with the law.

In response to inquiries, a company representative stated that, based on information from the investigation department, the non-compliant batch was produced in August 2025 and is no longer circulating in the market. The issue primarily stemmed from problems in the upstream breeding segment, and the company will subsequently enhance its management of suppliers and strengthen monitoring of veterinary drug batches.

Regarding the specific brand of the upstream supplier and the losses incurred from the incident, the representative indicated that details are not yet clear but emphasized that the company's current production and operations remain normal.

Currently, the Heilongjiang Provincial Market Regulatory Administration has instructed local authorities to conduct verification and disposal, urging the company to recall and remove the non-compliant products from shelves.

Corporate information shows that Wangkui Shuanghui Beidahuang Food Co., Ltd. was established in 2008 with a registered capital of 50 million yuan. It is 75% owned by Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co., Ltd. and 25% owned by Heilongjiang Beidahuang Meat Industry Co., Ltd. Its legal representative and chairman is Ma Xiangjie, the current director and president of Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co., Ltd., making it a "significant non-wholly-owned subsidiary."

Operationally, according to Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co., Ltd.'s 2025 annual report, Wangkui Shuanghui Beidahuang Food Co., Ltd. reported revenue of 1.418 billion yuan and a net profit of 72.4959 million yuan in 2025. For Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co., Ltd. as a whole, 2025 revenue was 59.274 billion yuan, a slight decrease of 0.48% year-on-year, while net profit attributable to shareholders was 5.105 billion yuan, an increase of 2.32% year-on-year, indicating a trend of "slight revenue decline but profit recovery."

Information released by the Heilongjiang Provincial Market Regulatory Administration states that lincomycin is a lincosamide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces, which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and has antibacterial effects against most Gram-positive bacteria and certain anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria. Long-term or excessive intake of food with超标 residues can pose multiple health risks.

Medical data indicates that adverse reactions to lincomycin include gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to pseudomembranous colitis, characterized by abdominal cramps, severe diarrhea (watery or bloody), accompanied by fever and abnormal thirst. Additionally, it may cause allergic reactions such as rashes, itching, and even anaphylactic shock. High-dose intake can also affect the hematopoietic system, leading to leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, and may cause liver damage.
