According to the "2026 New Year Holiday Travel Trends Report" released by TONGCHENGTRAVEL, searches for keywords like "New Year's Eve" and "New Year holiday" on the platform surged over 280% month-on-month in the past month. As December begins, bookings for flights, hotels, and homestays for the New Year holiday have gradually increased, with overall booking activity up nearly 30% compared to the same period last year.
The report highlights that the top 10 most popular attractions during the New Year holiday include Universal Beijing Resort, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, Harbin Ice and Snow World, and Laojun Mountain Scenic Area, with theme parks accounting for four spots. Additionally, demand for New Year's Eve bell-ringing ceremonies and prayer activities has risen, with attractions such as Hanshan Temple in Suzhou, Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, and Longhua Temple in Shanghai gaining significant attention—up over 80% month-on-month. The recent announcement of free admission to Lingyin Temple is expected to further boost visitor numbers for New Year prayers.
Snow tourism remains a major trend, with destinations like Meili Snow Mountain in Diqing (Yunnan), Gongga Snow Mountain in Ganzi (Sichuan), Yulong Snow Mountain in Lijiang (Yunnan), and Dagu Glacier in Aba (Sichuan) ranking among the top 20 most popular snow-themed attractions.
Winter escape trips are also a key travel theme for the holiday. Flight bookings from major cities like Beijing and Tianjin to warm-weather destinations such as Sanya, Haikou, Kunming, Guangzhou, and Xiamen have increased by 36% month-on-month. Popular routes include Beijing-Sanya, Beijing-Haikou, Xi'an-Guangzhou, Xi'an-Sanya, and Tianjin-Xiamen.
