Intel announced two key executive appointments on Monday, recruiting another senior executive from Qualcomm to strengthen its core product business and advance its artificial intelligence innovation strategy.
Alex Katouzian, who previously held a long-term position at Qualcomm, will join Intel as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Client Computing and Physical AI Group. In this role, he will be responsible for coordinating the integration of Intel's client computing operations with emerging physical AI systems, which include robotics, autonomous machines, and other AI-enabled devices. Katouzian will report directly to Intel CEO Li-Wu Chen and is scheduled to begin his duties this month.
This marks the second executive Intel has recruited from Qualcomm this year. In January, Intel appointed another former Qualcomm executive, Eric Demers, as Senior Vice President of GPU Architecture. In a statement, Chen remarked, "Alex brings deep technical expertise, strong operational discipline, and decades of experience building and scaling global computing platforms, making him the right leader to help us reimagine client computing beyond the PC."
Katouzian previously served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm's Mobile, Compute, and XR Group, having worked at the company for 25 years. This appointment comes as Intel's stock has surged 383% over the past year, reflecting market optimism regarding the company's transformation strategy.
Simultaneously, Intel announced the formal appointment of Pushkar Ranade, who had been serving as interim Chief Technology Officer, to the permanent role of Chief Technology Officer. Ranade will continue to serve as Chief of Staff to the CEO, overseeing the advancement of technology strategies in emerging fields such as quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, and photonics.
