At 40 years old, TVB actress Gao Haining has broken her silence over a decade-old rumor that she was kept by a wealthy businessman. During a recent interview, she revealed that a tabloid journalist had invented the entire story just to meet a deadline, confessing years later that the publication knew the real identity of the person involved but chose to target her instead to boost sales.
Gao stated that she never experienced sudden wealth and has always lived at her family home. The reporter, who encountered her by chance, proactively apologized, saying: "I've always wanted to say sorry to you. We knew who was actually being supported, we saw the person at the club, but we couldn't write about them. Writing about you meant the magazine would sell better."
The revelation came as Gao attended the TVB 2026 大湾区融合·IP扩阵 press conference held in Shenzhen on June 12, 2026. The event showcased the network's upcoming film and television projects, with notable stars including Moses Chan, Ruco Chan, Gao Haining, and Benjamin Tan in attendance.
During the conference, Benjamin Tan disclosed that the hit drama series News Queen will return for a third season. Gao, who played the character Hilda Hui in the first two installments, expressed her excitement about a spin-off series dedicated solely to her character, titled News Official: Hilda Hui.
"I am truly honored to have been part of the first two seasons of News Queen, and I hope there will be a role for me in the third," Gao said on stage. "I will devote myself fully to portraying this character. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have been given this opportunity through the collaboration between TVB and mainland Chinese platforms. It has allowed such a successful and beloved character to gain even greater possibilities and vitality. I hope moving forward we will create even more wonderful roles for audiences to remember."
Gao Haining, a Hong Kong-born actress, first gained widespread recognition in 2023 for her portrayal of the news anchor "Hilda Hui" in the workplace drama News Queen. The sequel, News Queen 2, in which she led the cast, aired in 2025.
